Atchafalaya Basin

Atchafalaya Gold Seasonings
Pronounced (ah-CHA-fa-LIE-ah)

Born on the bayou…Louisiana local, Louisiana Proud!

"This lone cypress standing in open water was on solid ground not very long ago.  It is an ever-present reminder that Louisiana's natural resources, so closely tied to our culture and lifestyle, could be lost forever.  However, with good stewardship and preservation, this tree and thousands of acres of swampland habitat can remain green and flourish for hundreds of years more.  It is our hope that future generations can enjoy our land's beauty and bounty again and again."

Atchafalaya Gold Seasonings is so named in appreciation for the Atchafalaya Basin, a great Louisiana treasure and testament to our heritage and culture. The 800,000 acre river swamp is the largest in the United States and lies in the heart of Louisiana from the Mississippi River to the Gulf of Mexico. A pristine diverse ecosystem of bottomland hardwoods, bald cypress, marshes and lakes that is habitat and home to many species of birds, plants and animals that we are so privileged to enjoy.

Every year when spring comes and the fresh water rise the Atchafalaya offers us an incredible bounty of seafood to enjoy, crawfish, blue crab and shrimp from beyond its delta. The Atchafalaya River rich with silt is helping to create coastal land by building marshes in the delta that are so valuable to preserving and protecting Louisiana’s coast, our first line of defense from hurricanes. Hurricane Katrina stripped an estimated 217 square miles of marsh in a single day.

Despite the alarming rate of Louisiana’s coastal  wetland loss, the delta being created at the mouth of the Atchafalaya River is the fastest growing delta in the world. The Atchafalaya Basin is like precious gold providing natural resources supporting Louisiana’s economy with jobs from oil & gas energy production, to commercial fishing, tourism and sportsman’s recreational activities.

The Atchafalaya Basin represents hope that our life style and culture can remain connected to Louisiana’s natural environment and will be preserved for generations to come. Louisiana people inspire a kaleidoscope of endless creation of exotic food dishes with seasonings as diverse as its culture. Its no secret why great food is Louisiana’s calling card to the world.

We hope you will use our seasoning spices to experience Cajun Creole cuisine. Thank you for supporting Purple Sack Seafood Spice LLC, producers of Atchafalaya Gold Seasonings.

Please practice good conservation in nature for everyone to enjoy again and again.
